This post marked the first activity on the account since July 31, 2014. Zelda Williams, an actor and director, has been vocal in opposing AI recreations of her father. She has publicly condemned the use of AI-generated videos featuring Robin Williams, emphasizing that it goes against what her father would have wanted. In an Instagram story, Zelda mentioned that reviving her father’s Instagram account is a step towards combatting AI misuse by providing genuine clips and photos of him to the public.
While some, like actor Matthew Lawrence, have expressed interest in using AI to bring back Robin Williams’s voice for special projects, they stress the importance of obtaining the family’s approval. Similarly, Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., has spoken out against the unauthorized use of her father’s likeness in AI creations.
In a different context, an AI version of the late actor Val Kilmer, who passed away last year at 65, is set to appear in the upcoming film “As Deep As the Grave,” with the estate’s consent and compensation for the digital replication.
