Summer McIntosh clinched her first-ever gold medal at the Pan Pacific swimming competition by setting a championship record in the women’s 400-meter individual medley in Irvine, California. McIntosh, hailing from Toronto, finished the race in four minutes and 28.01 seconds, outperforming Australia’s Jenna Forrester, who secured the silver, and Agostina Hein of Argentina, who took home the bronze.

After her victory, McIntosh expressed her satisfaction with her performance, although she believed she could have done even better. She highlighted the importance of analyzing her race splits to identify areas for improvement in future competitions. The Canadian national anthem was played in celebration of McIntosh’s win, drawing cheers from the enthusiastic crowd, especially a group of excited youths in attendance.

In another event, McIntosh contributed to Canada’s success by aiding the women’s 4×200 freestyle relay team in securing a bronze medal. Despite Australia and the United States claiming the top two spots, McIntosh’s strong performance alongside her teammates Mary-Sophie Harvey, Emma O’Croinin, and Brooklyn Douthwright helped Canada secure a place on the podium.

Furthermore, McIntosh emphasized the joy she finds in relay races and her commitment to continuing Canada’s success in swimming events leading up to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The competition also saw notable performances from other Canadian athletes, including Taylor Ruck and Alexanne Lepage, who delivered commendable results in their respective events.

Overall, McIntosh’s outstanding achievements at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships underscore her talent and dedication to representing Canada on the international stage, setting a positive tone for the future of Canadian swimming.
