Renowned romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her sixth book, titled “Only in Summer,” is set to be published on May 18, 2027. This new novel revisits Barry’s Bay, Ontario, the familiar backdrop of Fortune’s previous works like “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” as well as her own hometown.

In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared her excitement about purchasing a lakeside cottage near Barry’s Bay before diving into writing. The author expressed her long-held desire to own a cottage following the sale of her family’s lakefront property.

The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, also harbors a similar aspiration. Known as Ellie, she is the cousin of Charlie and Sam, characters from Fortune’s earlier Barry’s Bay tales. Ellie, a native of Barry’s Bay, yearns to acquire her own piece of land in the area. However, her plans are disrupted when she discovers the adjacent house is being torn down to make way for a grand mansion, owned by a charming newcomer.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, it’s likely that a hesitant romance will unfold against the picturesque lakeside setting. Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has an impressive editorial background with Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her literary repertoire includes titles such as “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” was a notable contender on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to grace the show. Additionally, “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” which has been renewed for a second season, drawing inspiration from “One Golden Summer.” Netflix Canada is also in the process of adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode TV series.
