I Am Maximus made history by winning the Randox Grand National at Aintree, becoming the first horse since Red Rum to achieve this feat. The race favorite, with odds of 9-2, secured a significant victory after a £100,000 bet at 8-1 odds, potentially earning the punter £800,000.

Trained by Willie Mullins, I Am Maximus had previously won the race in 2024 and finished as the runner-up a year ago. This victory marked a rare achievement as no horse had reclaimed the Grand National title since Red Rum’s double win in 1977.

Under the guidance of jockey Paul Townend, I Am Maximus overtook Jordans near the finish line to secure the win. The race also saw a strong showing from other horses owned by JP McManus, with Iroko finishing second and Johnnywho taking third place.

This win marked Mullins’s third consecutive Grand National victory, positioning him alongside renowned trainers Ginger McCain and Fred Rimell with four wins each. Townend credited the use of cheekpieces for aiding his performance during the race.

Despite early exits by other contenders like Panic Attack, the race remained competitive until Jordans briefly surged ahead before fading in the final stretch. McManus expressed his delight at the victory, emphasizing I Am Maximus’s suitability for the Grand National course.

The race outcome was a testament to the skillful execution by both horse and jockey, with McManus hinting at future attempts to match Red Rum’s legacy. The thrilling event showcased the enduring appeal of the Grand National and the excitement it brings to spectators and participants alike.
