A man has confessed to drugging and sexually assaulting his former wife for a span of 13 years. Philip Young, a former Conservative councilor, admitted to a range of charges, including rape, assault, and voyeurism, in front of his ex-wife Joanne Young at Winchester Crown Court. The offences, which occurred between 2010 and 2023, involved administering substances to stupefy his then-wife.

Young, previously residing in Swindon but now living in Enfield, pleaded guilty to 48 out of the 56 charges brought against him, encompassing acts such as rape, voyeurism, assault, and administering substances with intent. Ms. Young, who had waived her anonymity, was present in court during the plea hearing, supported by her sister and a witness support member.

While Young denied eight charges, including possession of inappropriate images, five other men faced court proceedings for alleged sexual offenses against Ms. Young. Norman Macksoni and Richard Wilkins pleaded not guilty to rape charges, while Dean Hamilton is yet to enter a plea for similar charges along with assault accusations. Wilkins also denied an assault charge. Additionally, Connor Sanderson Doyle and Mohammed Hassan pleaded not guilty to separate sexual assault charges.

All five accused men were granted bail, and their trial is scheduled for October 5.
