In Davos, White House press secretary defends President Trump’s speech after Greenland-Iceland mix-up
The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland witnessed a noteworthy speech by President Trump on January 21. During his address, Trump mistakenly interchanged Greenland and Iceland multiple times, drawing global attention.
Following the blunder, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt took to social media to clarify that the public misinterpreted Trump’s words. Leavitt responded to criticism, stating that Trump’s written remarks referred to Greenland as a “piece of ice” due to its icy nature.
Despite social media backlash pointing out the error, Leavitt defended Trump’s speech. She insisted that the speech received positive feedback from attendees, describing it as a success that struck an inspiring tone with the audience.
During his speech, Trump also made a geographical error by mispronouncing Azerbaijan as “Aberbaijan,” though he correctly named Armenia after previously mentioning Albania. Trump emphasized America’s global dominance, asserting that only the United States could secure Greenland effectively.
Despite mixed reviews of the speech, Leavitt maintained that it was well-received by the audience and praised Trump’s delivery as inspirational.
