The Met Office has pinpointed the UK regions likely to see snowfall from late January to early February. According to the extended forecast, snow, sleet, and colder conditions are expected to return starting January 23 until February 1. Meteorologists have warned of an arctic blast from the East colliding with Atlantic weather patterns.
While the prevailing Atlantic front will bring heavy downpours, specific areas in the UK, especially the far northeast like Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland, and the Scottish border, could experience snowfall once again.
The battle between Atlantic weather systems pushing in from the west and high pressure along with colder, drier conditions from the east will continue throughout the period, as explained by the Met Office. Initially, milder Atlantic air will dominate most parts with rain showers, but colder temperatures with sleet or snow are likely in the far northeast.
The beginning of February is expected to bring wintry hazards to the northeast, with unsettled conditions possible in the first half of the month. Weather patterns around the UK are anticipated to evolve slowly, potentially leading to colder conditions and wintry hazards. Confidence is low, but a transition to more unsettled conditions and a temperature recovery closer to average may occur deeper into February.
