A tourist filmed a terrifying moment when a shark bit her leg while she was snorkeling in the ocean. Tayane Dalazen was enjoying the waters of the Fernando de Noronha archipelago in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco with friends when the incident occurred. The peaceful scene turned chaotic as a nurse shark approached and bit her leg, leading to her hospitalization.

Footage captured by the tourist showed the shark’s slow approach before the sudden attack. Nurse sharks, known for their ability to crush shelled prey, typically do not target larger animals like other aggressive shark species. Despite their strong jaws and serrated teeth, they primarily feed on crustaceans and mollusks.

The shark latched onto Dalazen’s leg, causing significant bite marks, but she received prompt assistance from her tour guide. Following the incident, she humorously remarked that the shark seemed to be missing a tooth. Nurse shark attacks are uncommon but can occur in areas frequented by tourists due to irregular feeding habits.

Dalazen shared pictures of her injuries, displaying the crescent-shaped bite marks on her leg. Fortunately, she only sustained minor wounds from the encounter. The Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation initiated an investigation into the incident.
