Jannik Sinner, the current top-ranked men’s tennis player globally, has pulled out of the Cincinnati Open due to a knee injury. Sinner, who last played at Wimbledon and also skipped the National Bank Open in Montreal, cited ongoing knee issues as the reason for his withdrawal. The 24-year-old Italian, holding five Grand Slam titles, is eying a French Open win to complete his career Grand Slam. In a statement, Sinner expressed disappointment over missing Cincinnati but is focusing on preparing for the upcoming U.S. Open.
This decision by Sinner comes after Carlos Alcaraz announced his withdrawal from the Cincinnati event due to a wrist injury. Consequently, neither Sinner nor Alcaraz, the world’s top two players, will be present at the men’s singles event in Cincinnati. Sinner, who clinched the Cincinnati title two years ago and then went on to win the U.S. Open, aims to return stronger next year.
Alcaraz, who defeated Sinner in last year’s U.S. Open final, is gearing up to defend his title as the main draw of the tournament kicks off on August 30.
