Statistics Canada has reported a significant influx of vehicles crossing the newly opened Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada. The bridge, which finally opened to traffic on July 27 after facing delays, witnessed a high volume of traffic in its initial days of operation.
According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were approximately 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the United States using the Gordie Howe bridge within the first five days. In comparison, 18,100 U.S. residents made their way into Canada via the same route during that time frame.
In addition to the Gordie Howe bridge, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel also experienced substantial traffic, with a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents during the same period.
Furthermore, in the last five days of July, 4,100 commercial transport trucks entered Canada through the Gordie Howe bridge, adding to the overall traffic flow in the region.
