London Marathon organizers are considering expanding the event to two days in 2027 to accommodate more runners. The marathon has been a staple in the capital city since 1981, maintaining its presence over the years.

Traditionally held in a single day, the marathon may transition to a weekend-long affair to cater to the growing number of participants. Discussions are underway to split the event across two days to facilitate a larger turnout.

A representative from the London Marathon stated, “The TCS London Marathon is renowned as the world’s most popular marathon, and we are continuously seeking innovative ways to engage more individuals while bringing positive impacts to London.”

While no official approval has been granted yet, the focus remains on delivering a remarkable 2026 TCS London Marathon on April 26th, ensuring every runner has an exceptional experience.

Chief executive Hugh Brasher emphasized, “The TCS London Marathon holds the title of the world’s most popular marathon, and we are consistently exploring new avenues to encourage broader participation and deliver positive outcomes for London.”

With the upcoming 2026 TCS London Marathon just around the corner, the emphasis is on fulfilling the original spirit of the event, which aimed to spread happiness and a sense of accomplishment in challenging times.

A spokesperson for the Mayor of London expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of extending the marathon over two days in the future, highlighting London’s status as a global sports hub.

This year, a record-breaking 1,133,813 individuals applied through the public ballot to partake in the marathon set for April 26th, marking a 36% increase from the previous year’s numbers.

The event has not only seen a surge in participants but has also achieved its highest-ever fundraising total, with £87.3 million collected. Furthermore, last year’s marathon set a Guinness World Record for the highest number of finishers in a single marathon, with 56,640 runners crossing the finish line.
