Beauty Bay, an online retailer specializing in cosmetics, is facing imminent collapse following the submission of a notice of intention to appoint administrators. This step indicates the company’s readiness to enter administration and triggers a temporary legal halt preventing creditors from pursuing legal actions for a period of ten days.
According to a report by Sky News, the notice was lodged earlier this week. Concurrently, Beauty Bay has deactivated its website, displaying a message stating, “We’ll Be Back Soon. BEAUTY BAY is offline right now, we’ll be back shortly.”
Established in 1999 by siblings Arron and David Gabbie in Manchester, Beauty Bay offers a diverse selection of over 200 brands on its platform, including popular names like Ariana Grande, Clinique, and MAC, alongside its own product line. The company had been exploring various funding options, potentially including a complete sale of the business.
Interpath, an advisory firm, has been engaged by Beauty Bay to conduct a comprehensive business review. The company, which currently employs 65 individuals, is yet to provide a formal statement on the matter.
This development follows the recent collapse of Quiz, a fashion retailer, into administration, resulting in the loss of 109 jobs. Quiz is in the process of making redundancies at its head office in Glasgow and warehouse in Lanarkshire. The company’s website has been taken offline, with customers being informed that undelivered online orders will be canceled.
Quiz has advised customers seeking refunds to contact their bank or credit card provider. Consumers who made purchases exceeding £100 using a credit card may be eligible for a refund under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. For transactions made with a debit card or credit card amounting to £100 or less, Chargeback may be an applicable option within 120 days of purchase.
Alternatively, Quiz is offering customers the option to exchange unwanted items in-store for products of equal value. Although Quiz stores are still operational, the company has discontinued the acceptance of gift cards. With 40 stores nationwide and concessions in New Look and Matalan outlets, Quiz’s concessions within these stores are not impacted by the administration proceedings.
