Emergency services were called to a security incident at a golf club belonging to Donald Trump shortly after his son departed in the afternoon. The Defence Forces’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, also known as the bomb squad, was dispatched to the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, County Clare, Ireland. The alert was triggered by the delivery of an envelope suspected to contain a powdery substance.
The situation unfolded after Eric Trump, aged 42, left the premises and traveled to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum (WEF). Both Donald Trump and Eric are currently in Davos, Switzerland, participating in the forum themed “A Spirit of Dialogue,” running from January 19 to January 23.
Previously, the luxury hotel had faced a bomb threat leading to a police investigation. Despite the security scare, the hotel remained operational during the winter closure. Authorities, including a specialist sniffer dog from Dublin, conducted a search on the property but found nothing suspicious.
A spokesperson for the Defence Forces refrained from commenting on the ongoing operation. Meanwhile, the Gardai confirmed an ongoing incident in west Clare without directly naming Doonbeg, although sources verified the location as Mr. Trump’s hotel complex. The Garda spokesman stated, “We are currently dealing with an ongoing incident at a premises in West Clare. There will be no further comment at this time.”
Eric Trump reportedly stayed at the hotel the night before his departure to Davos. Donald Trump had earlier highlighted the Doonbeg site as the venue for the Irish Golf Open scheduled for September 9 to 13 this year. The security alert was raised following the delivery of the suspicious envelope containing a powdery substance, as reported by the Irish Mirror.
