Service on Line 1 of Ottawa’s O-Train was back in operation by 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, following disruptions due to an overhead wire issue on Friday. The east end of Line 1 experienced platform closures and the use of replacement buses as a result of the problem.
On Sunday evening at around 8 p.m., Line 1 services were adjusted to run between Tunney’s Pasture and Tremblay stations, while R1 bus service covered the route between Hurdman and Blair stations. Repair work was scheduled to continue overnight, as mentioned in a memo from OC Transpo issued just before 6 p.m. on Friday.
A damaged component in the overhead power wire system was detected between St-Laurent and Cyrville on Thursday morning, leading to a temporary halt in train operations. Earlier, trains were not running beyond St-Laurent station.
Transit services general manager Rick Leary communicated in a memo at 3:10 p.m. on Thursday that regular Line 1 service would resume by the start of Friday’s service. However, due to more extensive damages than anticipated, repairs were delayed until the evening. If inspections go smoothly, regular service was expected to resume on Saturday.
The overhead catenary system of the LRT, which supplies electric current to power the trains, has faced issues in the past after freezing rain or lightning incidents. The cause of the latest damage has not been clarified by OC Transpo yet.
