An individual from Annapolis Valley is charged with attempted murder and various weapon-related offenses following a shooting incident involving a woman known to him, who sustained critical injuries and was promptly hospitalized. Ryan Alexander Cole, aged 36, appeared briefly in Nova Scotia Provincial Court on Monday, with his case adjourned to August 25 while he remains in custody.
The event transpired on Saturday morning in South Farmington within the Annapolis Valley, prompting a police response to a reported shooting. The suspect escaped the scene in a damaged Mazda sedan, heading towards Halifax. Law enforcement pursued the vehicle, employing tactics such as a spike belt on the highway, albeit unsuccessfully, leading to aerial tracking of the suspect.
The Mazda eventually halted after colliding with a tree as the suspect attempted to navigate a hiking trail behind a shopping center in Bedford, a suburb of Halifax. Subsequently, the suspect fled on foot, prompting the RCMP to issue alerts regarding the situation, emphasizing public safety concerns given the suspected possession of a firearm.
Authorities, including police dog units from the RCMP and Halifax Regional Police, along with emergency response teams, participated in the apprehension. While confirming a connection between Cole and the victim, the nature of their relationship remains undisclosed. Cole’s criminal history traces back to 2008, featuring numerous charges such as breaching release conditions, disarming a police officer, resisting arrest, and unauthorized sharing of intimate images.
