Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that the current season in the Saudi Pro League may mark the conclusion of his illustrious football career. At 41 years old, the iconic forward’s contract with Al-Nassr, which was inked in December 2022, is set to expire in June, and he has indicated to Vogue magazine that he is unlikely to pursue another contract.

“I believe this could be my final year in football, and my aim is to leave behind a remarkable legacy,” Ronaldo shared. The Portuguese star, renowned for his tally of 976 career goals, recently tied the knot with his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

“I have my future plans all laid out,” he explained. “There are numerous pursuits to keep me occupied, as it’s challenging to fill the void that football may leave. Diversifying activities is essential for a fulfilling post-football life.”

Ronaldo expressed his intentions to engage in activities he enjoys, such as traveling, playing padel, and relishing the fruits of his labor. Reflecting on his quarter-century career filled with sacrifices, he emphasized the need to explore various interests beyond the realm of football.

The ongoing 2026-27 SPL season marks Ronaldo’s 25th year in professional football, during which he has clinched five Ballon d’Or accolades and five UEFA Champions League titles. His exceptional performance in the previous season, where he netted 28 league goals, propelled Al-Nassr to secure the Saudi Arabian championship in May, marking his inaugural title since joining the Riyadh-based club.

Despite missing the season opener following his wedding festivities, Ronaldo remains a crucial figure for Al-Nassr, with Coach Ange Postecoglou lauding his presence and commitment to the team. The football maestro is poised to potentially feature in the upcoming King’s Cup clash against Al-Diriyah.

Ronaldo’s contemplation of retirement coincides with Lionel Messi’s recent statement about potential retirement following his father’s passing. Messi, aged 39, expressed uncertainty about his future in football, acknowledging the challenges he faces in continuing his career.

The football world awaits further developments as these legendary figures navigate the twilight of their remarkable sporting journeys.
