Angie Best, the 73-year-old ex-wife of football legend George Best, has updated her fans from a hospital in Switzerland where she is undergoing unconventional mistletoe chemotherapy treatment for her recent cancer diagnosis. She shared a photo on Instagram showing her connected to an IV drip in the medical facility.

The post, which follows her son Calum’s disclosure of her colon cancer that has spread to her liver, shows Angie in a hospital bed with IV fluid bags nearby. In her caption, she expressed gratitude to her supporters for their kindness during this challenging time.

Mistletoe therapy, derived from the European mistletoe plant, is a non-traditional cancer treatment popular in Europe, especially in countries like Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. While some believe it boosts the immune system and improves cancer patients’ quality of life, its effectiveness is still debated in mainstream medicine.

Although not endorsed by the NHS due to inconclusive evidence of its curative properties, mistletoe therapy can complement traditional chemotherapy, as in Angie’s case. Her post received an outpouring of love and encouragement from well-wishers, including her son Calum and TV personality Jenny Powell.

In addition to undergoing mistletoe therapy, Angie has expressed skepticism about conventional cancer treatments, raising questions about the impact of cancer research funding. Her son Calum, in a heartfelt video, shared the difficulties of his mother’s diagnosis and established a GoFundMe page to support her specialized treatment.

Angie’s story with George Best, which began in 1975 in Los Angeles and led to a marriage in 1976, has faced challenges, including George’s battle with alcoholism and their subsequent divorce in 1986. The article also touches on bowel cancer awareness, symptoms, and survival rates, shedding light on the importance of early detection and treatment.

The emotional journey of Angie Best and her family as they navigate her cancer diagnosis serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength required in facing such health challenges.
