The Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported a fatality in a collision involving two commercial transport trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland. The incident occurred near Gullbridge, also known as Gull Pond Bridge, between Badger and South Brook early Tuesday morning.
Upon responding to the crash around 2:15 a.m. NT, authorities found both vehicles engulfed in flames. The driver of one truck, a 47-year-old man heading east, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, traveling westbound, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Due to the police response, a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook remained closed for several hours on Tuesday. An investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
