The Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games feature 10 regions, with one region turning the provincial event into an international affair. Participating in the Games are boys and girls soccer teams from the French territories of St. Pierre and Miquelon, situated off the southern coast of Newfoundland in Corner Brook.

The boys’ team kicked off their tournament by facing Team Eastern, resulting in a 1-0 loss. Soccer holds significant importance in St. Pierre, and players express gratitude for the opportunity to compete in Newfoundland, broadening their horizons.

Arthur Champdoizeau, a 15-year-old player, highlighted the positive experience of representing St. Pierre at the N.L. Games, emphasizing the lack of competitive challenges in their home region. Another player, 14-year-old Antony Cronsteadt, noted the limited playing options in St. Pierre, making the tournament a fresh and enjoyable experience for them.

Team manager Guillaume Grasset emphasized the developmental value of events like the N.L. Games, enabling players to grow, form new friendships, and create lasting memories. The Games’ closing ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, offering a culmination to the sporting event.
