A global coalition of soccer fan organizations has initiated a petition urging Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA president following his proposal to sell future World Cup revenues to private investors. The petition, under the hashtag InfantinOut, also advocates for a restructuring of FIFA to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The petition condemned Infantino’s failed attempt to commercialize the World Cup, describing it as a betrayal that tarnished the sport. Notable groups involved in the petition include Football Supporters Europe, Football Supporters Africa, the Independent Supporters Council in North America, and approximately 40 national fan groups worldwide.
Despite facing mounting pressure, including a lack of confidence from UEFA and criticism from CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation, Infantino has refused to resign. The petition accuses him of a severe leadership failure, citing concerns about centralized power, lack of transparency, favoritism, and a lack of accountability within FIFA.
