A woman narrowly escaped tragedy in the recent Spanish train crash by changing carriages when she couldn’t use the occupied toilet. This decision likely saved her life, as the eighth carriage, where many passengers perished, was in stark contrast to the fifth carriage where everyone survived.

Despite the fatal outcome that claimed at least 39 lives, this woman’s fortunate escape provided a glimmer of hope amid the chaos. Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente expressed bewilderment over the collision, deeming it an anomaly given the recent track renovations and adherence to speed limits by both trains involved.

Among the survivors was Lucas Merakio, an Argentinian passenger on the Madrid-bound Iryo train that collided with a Renfe train heading to Huelva. He recounted the harrowing experience, mentioning a young girl frantically searching for her parents and the confusion faced by English-speaking passengers trying to comprehend the situation.

Describing the moment of impact, Lucas vividly shared the train’s violent derailment and the subsequent darkness and screams that enveloped the carriage. Despite the chaos, passengers displayed solidarity, offering assistance and comfort to those in need until emergency services arrived.

The scene at the Adamuz Station was one of injuries and shock, with victims arriving with severe wounds and broken bones. As medics struggled to cope with the influx of casualties, the full extent of the tragedy unfolded, revealing the overturned eighth carriage with fatal casualties inside and a young girl separated from her parents.
