Security footage captured a dramatic incident where a package exploded at the reception of a building in the popular tourist destination of Istanbul.
The suspicious parcel was delivered to the reception of a residential building in Istanbul and placed on the front desk. Video footage shows a man trying to open the package, triggering a sudden explosion.
The small package detonated, injuring the man and two building staff members with smoke and flames. The force of the blast scattered items from the front desk across the reception area, leaving debris and shattered glass behind.
The blast caused significant damage to the reception area, leaving a visible mark where the package had been placed. Reports indicate that a delivery driver left the package shortly before the explosion occurred.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, on January 11. Both injured staff members received initial treatment at the reception before being transferred to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, they have since been discharged.
Authorities cordoned off the building for investigation purposes. Forensic teams conducted a thorough examination in collaboration with law enforcement officers to determine the cause of the explosion.
The motive behind the incident remains unclear. One of the injured staff members, Harun Arkin, recounted the event, mentioning suspicions about the package and the lack of a company logo on the courier.
Berra Köse, another staff member present during the explosion, noted the resident’s attempt to open the package in the lobby before the incident unfolded. The staff members were recognized by the EVA Group, which manages security at the building, for their vigilance in preventing a more severe disaster.
