Maya Jama has responded to a critical social media user who made disparaging remarks about her appearance following the premiere episode of the latest season of Love Island All Stars. The 30-year-old Love Island host was taken aback when a follower commented on her “turkey teeth.”
Presently, Maya is hosting the new series of Love Island: All Stars, where former Love Islanders are given another shot at love in South Africa. This season features returning contestants like Whitney Adebayo and Millie Court. Additionally, Maya is slated to appear in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen sequel and serve as a judge on The Masked Singer.
On Twitter, one individual questioned Maya’s teeth, stating: “Ahhh Maya what have you done with your teeth?” Another remarked, “Maya got Turkey teeth – I loveeeeeeed her old teeth so much.” Responding promptly, Maya clarified, “Girl I have not got Turkey teeth. I’ve got braces (behind my teeth on the top and outside on the bottom). I wasn’t mad at my lil crook but can never please ’em all, last season I was getting messages about them being bent.”
The conversation sparked varied reactions from other online fans, with some expressing support and others questioning the term “turkey teeth.” Ahead of Love Island: All Stars, Maya opted for lingual braces, an invisible method for teeth straightening. The procedure, which Maya is undergoing at a dental clinic in Chelsea, begins at around £6,000.
Dr. Rhona, the clinic’s founder, described lingual braces as fixed braces situated behind the teeth, offering discreet alignment while maintaining a natural smile. Dr. Annika Patel, overseeing Maya’s treatment, highlighted the appeal of lingual braces for individuals seeking effective orthodontic treatment without visible braces.
Maya commenced her treatment in October 2025, with an average duration of 12 to 18 months. Despite the online scrutiny, Maya expressed contentment with her smile, acknowledging the inevitability of receiving mixed feedback online.
Recently, Maya addressed Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot Grok, urging it not to manipulate her images following requests to create ‘deepfake’ bikini photos. Maya emphasized the importance of distinguishing between authentic content and AI-generated material, referencing past incidents of manipulated images circulating online.
