Two unexploded bombs dating back to World War II were discovered in Plymouth and Exmouth and have been safely dealt with by the authorities, as confirmed by police officials.

The bombs were found within a short timeframe on Wednesday and were subsequently taken out to sea for secure disposal early on Friday by Devon and Cornwall Police. Both incidents created significant alerts simultaneously, resulting in the evacuation of Exmouth residents within a 600-meter perimeter.

James Vaughan, Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall, praised the remarkable courage and expertise of the Royal Navy and army bomb disposal teams during what he described as a demanding week. The first bomb was located at a construction site in Plymouth’s city center, with the second being found at Exmouth Marina on the same day.

A considerable number of people within a 400-meter and later expanded to a 600-meter radius had to be evacuated as military experts carefully handled the disposal process. Video footage captured military bomb disposal specialists removing one of the unexploded devices from a trawler at Exmouth Marina before transporting it out to sea.

Mr. Vaughan and police and crime commissioner Alison Hernandez met with various personnel at the Exmouth Lifeboat station command center, acknowledging their crucial contributions to the successful resolution of the situation.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Vaughan emphasized the impressive collaboration and community response to the incidents in both Plymouth and Exmouth, attributing the successful outcomes to the bravery and skills demonstrated by the Royal Navy and army bomb disposal experts.

Ms. Hernandez also lauded the professionalism of the police team in managing the logistical aspects surrounding the evacuation process, highlighting their calm and efficient approach.
