The mother of a teenage girl who was hit by a car on a dark country road has pledged to seek justice 26 years after the tragic incident. Lizzie Gilmour, a talented singer, tragically lost her life in January 2000 on a ring road in York under mysterious circumstances. The 15-year-old was last seen distressed and crying in a vehicle before being struck by a car and succumbing to her injuries.
Authorities suspect that Lizzie was taken to the ring road and have not ruled out the possibility of abduction. Her mother believes there are individuals withholding information about the events leading to her daughter’s death. Despite speculation, the police determined that the driver involved in the accident was not responsible, as evidence showed no wrongdoing on their part.
During the inquest, an open verdict was reached due to numerous unanswered questions surrounding the case. The coroner expressed disbelief that Lizzie, described as sensible and level-headed, intended to harm herself. Family members maintain that Lizzie would not have willingly put herself in harm’s way.
Lizzie’s mother, Rose Ozturkce, remains determined to uncover the truth, emphasizing that Lizzie’s death was not a result of her own actions. On the anniversary of her daughter’s passing, Rose appeals for anyone with relevant information to come forward, seeking closure for the family.
Described as a gifted singer with a promising future, Lizzie was also talented in playing musical instruments, acting, and dancing. Rose fondly remembers her daughter as a beautiful, fun-loving individual with a heart of gold. Despite the passage of time, the pain of losing Lizzie remains fresh for the family.
North Yorkshire Police initially investigated the case and have expressed readiness to reopen the inquiry if new information emerges, particularly regarding individuals Lizzie may have been with before her death.
