EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat the escalating threat of scams in the UK. With millions of pounds lost daily to cybercriminals using sophisticated tactics, the telecom provider aims to empower its customers with robust protection against fraudulent activities.

Available to all EE pay-monthly mobile subscribers for a nominal fee of £2 per month, the upgraded Scam Guard service offers advanced security features to shield users from potential attacks. Despite the additional cost, EE assures its clientele of significantly improved safeguarding measures.

Since its inception in 2024, Scam Guard has successfully thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts, a testament to its efficacy. With the latest upgrade, EE anticipates doubling this figure in the next year, underscoring the service’s commitment to shielding customers from online threats.

Central to the new Scam Guard is the AI Triple-Lock Protection, a trio of cutting-edge security components powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine. These include Safe Email, which proactively guards email inboxes round the clock, Safe SMS for real-time detection of intricate text message scams, and Safe Web that prevents malicious websites from causing harm during online activities.

The revamped Scam Guard also introduces Scam Assistant, enabling users to seek instant guidance by uploading screenshots of suspicious content. Furthermore, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring are integrated to track and alert customers of any dubious online behavior promptly.

Malcolm Cubitt, EE’s Director of Product for Mobile, emphasized the necessity of staying ahead of evolving fraud tactics, attributing the surge in scams to the increasing sophistication enabled by AI. He highlighted EE’s proactive approach in fortifying customer security through strategic partnerships, network-level controls, and a dedicated team of cybersecurity experts. The enhanced Scam Guard service underscores EE’s unwavering commitment to providing top-tier cyber protection for its clientele.
