The Original Factory Shop has recently entered administration, appointing administrators from Interpath Advisory. This move has put 137 stores and 1,180 jobs at risk. While the physical stores are still operating normally as administrators evaluate the business options, the online operations have been suspended.
The challenges faced by The Original Factory Shop include high cost inflation, increasing labor expenses, and reduced sales due to decreased consumer spending. Compounding these issues are problems associated with its third-party warehouse and logistics provider. Established in 1969, The Original Factory Shop was acquired by Modella Capital last year.
Rick Harrison, the managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, expressed regret over the company’s situation, stating that despite being a key presence in local high streets nationwide, trading difficulties necessitated the administration filing. The administrators plan to work closely with the dedicated employees of The Original Factory Shop to maintain store operations while exploring potential business solutions.
