An 81-year-old man from Vietnam has shared his story of not sleeping for over 60 years, leaving experts puzzled. Thai Ngoc, residing in a village in Quang Nam province, developed insomnia after a severe fever during the Vietnam War at the age of 20.
Since then, he claims to have never slept a single minute, despite trying various remedies and even resorting to alcohol without success. Ngoc expressed envy towards others who can sleep, finding stillness unbearable.
Utilizing his sleepless nights, Ngoc spends his time tending to crops, weeding fields, and making homemade rice wine. Surprisingly, he continues to function normally, engaging in physically demanding tasks and maintaining regular habits like smoking and drinking.
Although local doctors find him healthy, the cause of Ngoc’s persistent insomnia remains a mystery. Speculations range from early trauma and stress triggers to rare neurological anomalies, but without formal diagnosis or scientific verification, his condition remains unexplained.
Reports highlight the exceptional nature of Ngoc’s case, challenging conventional understanding of sleep disorders. Chronic lack of sleep typically leads to physical and mental decline, making Ngoc’s sustained wakefulness an extraordinary anomaly that defies biological norms.
