“US Attacks Iranian Oil Tankers in Escalating Conflict”

U.S. military forces attacked three Iranian oil tankers in response to ballistic missile strikes on Navy warships, the American military announced on Saturday, emphasizing readiness to eliminate Iran’s vulnerable oil fleet. This move was deemed a risky escalation following Iran’s previous assaults on commercial shipping at sea.

The strikes, occurring after President Donald Trump downplayed the conflict as insignificant, mark a renewed shift towards hostilities after a fluctuating six-month period of intermittent war initiated by U.S. and Israeli offensives on Iran. Both sides have aimed to inflict military and economic damage, with diplomatic negotiations collapsing.

According to the military’s statement, a U.S. aircraft carrier and a destroyer evaded multiple unprovoked Iranian assaults in the region without any harm to U.S. personnel. Iranian missiles targeted two oil carriers, rendering them inoperable, and destroyed a third unladen vessel, as per the statement.

Iran’s state media reported retaliatory actions targeting three oil tankers and three American vessels in response to the U.S. strikes, although this claim could not be immediately verified. A spokesperson from Iran’s joint military command warned of more severe actions against U.S. military ships should interference with Iranian shipping persist.

The U.S. Central Command’s Admiral Brad Cooper affirmed the commitment to defend American forces and reiterated the readiness to eliminate Iran’s exposed oil fleet if necessary. Meanwhile, Iran denounced the attacks as war crimes, attributing responsibility for continued aggression and economic warfare to Washington and its allies.

Amidst the ongoing conflict and disruptions to Iranian ports, the extent of damage to Iranian oil tankers remains unclear. The resumption of hostilities occurred after the U.S. intensified economic pressure on Tehran, prompting a response from Iran’s newly assertive leadership against decades of sanctions.

Efforts to address Iran’s nuclear program through negotiations have faltered, leading to potential U.N. Security Council involvement due to alleged noncompliance with nuclear nonproliferation agreements. Tehran’s strategic focus has shifted to the vital Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passageway for global oil shipments, where the U.S. military has been assisting with navigation amid heightened tensions.
