The United Kingdom has decided not to participate in Donald Trump’s Board of Peace at this time due to the invitation extended to Vladimir Putin. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed concerns about Putin’s involvement in the US President’s initiative aimed at resolving the Israel-Hamas conflict. The signing ceremony for this plan is scheduled to occur today.

Cooper mentioned on BBC Breakfast that the UK would not be signing today, citing reservations about Putin’s role in a peace-related endeavor, especially given the lack of visible peace efforts from Putin regarding Ukraine. Emphasizing the need for a genuine commitment to peace, Cooper highlighted broader concerns that need to be addressed.

While the UK does not currently support Putin’s inclusion, they do endorse Trump’s 20-point peace plan for the Middle East. There are additional worries about the participation of Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus’s authoritarian leader, raising concerns that regional dictators may influence the area’s future.

Trump intends to present his proposals at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The Kremlin is evaluating the invitation to join the board, with Trump asserting that Putin has accepted the offer along with many others.

Number 10 Downing Street had previously expressed apprehension about Putin’s potential membership. Moscow is consulting with its strategic partners before making a decision on committing to the peace initiative.

Several countries including the UAE, Bahrain, Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Morocco, and Vietnam have signed up. France announced its decision not to join, prompting Trump to threaten significant tariffs on French goods.
