President Donald Trump of the United States has issued a warning to Iran, stating that severe action will be taken if the country proceeds with the execution of protesters. In an interview with CBS news anchor Tony Dokoupil on Tuesday, January 13, Trump emphasized the intention to respond strongly to any such actions by Iran as reports emerged of planned mass executions in the Middle Eastern nation.

Iran has been witnessing widespread protests aimed at overthrowing the long-standing Mullah regime in power since 1979. Despite facing opposition from the armed forces, demonstrators continue to rally on the streets demanding change. The unrest has resulted in a significant death toll, with over 2,000 individuals reportedly killed during the protests, and more individuals facing imminent execution, as evidenced by the presence of body bags in morgues.

Expressing concern over the escalating situation in Iran, Trump condemned the violence and emphasized the consequences of such actions. The first individual scheduled for execution in Iran’s crackdown on protesters is 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, a clothing store owner arrested for his alleged involvement in anti-government protests.

According to human rights organizations, Soltani was given a brief 10-minute meeting with his family before being slated for hanging on Wednesday. Trump took to social media to caution Iranian officials about facing repercussions for any violent acts, while also assuring Iranian citizens of forthcoming assistance.

During the CBS interview, Trump hinted at various forms of aid being extended to Iranian citizens, including economic support. He referenced past U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities but refrained from disclosing further specifics. In response, Iran warned that the U.S. would be a “legitimate target” if such strikes were carried out.
