The lifeless body of a young boy who vanished on New Year’s Eve was discovered next to his faithful canine companion. Johnathan Boley, affectionately known as John John, disappeared while playing in his father’s backyard with his younger brother and their dog, Buck.
Clad in a yellow Mickey Mouse shirt, black trousers, and Paw Patrol shoes, Johnathan was last spotted playing near the fence with his brother and the dog, according to police reports. The brother recounted that the dog and Johnathan ventured beyond the fence line.
The disappearance in Walker County, Alabama, spurred a large-scale search effort covering 500 acres, involving 160 volunteers and 126 first responders. Tragically, the search concluded on January 2 when the boy’s lifeless body was found, partially submerged in a creek, after his dog guided a search team to the location. Sheriff Nick Smith mentioned that no signs of foul play or trauma were evident.
A preliminary autopsy conducted by the Walker County Coroner revealed that Boley succumbed to hypothermia. Authorities stated there were no immediate signs of foul play. John John and his brother were visiting their father, Jameson Kyle Boley, as part of their scheduled five-day visitation for the year.
Upon searching Boley’s residence for the missing child, law enforcement allegedly discovered explosives, leading to a temporary halt in the search as a safety precaution. However, it was later determined that the devices were not dangerous. Boley, aged 40, faces unrelated charges, including unlawful manufacturing of destructive devices or biological weapons. Although the devices were non-explosive, the children were potentially exposed to methamphetamines.
The brothers had traveled from Florida to visit their father in Alabama and were expected to return to their mother, Angel, on January 1.
This incident follows the tragic discovery of a body in the search for a missing 14-year-old boy in Co Meath, Ireland, last month. Benjamin Spot went missing on November 19 and was last seen cycling in Navan. Despite extensive search efforts, his body was found along the River Boyne in Co Meath.
Gardai confirmed the conclusion of the missing persons appeal after the discovery of Benjamin Spot’s body in Co Meath. No further action was deemed necessary at that time.
