Swiss authorities announced the apprehension of a 43-year-old individual in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at a rave in Aarau over the weekend. The incident resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Italian woman and left five others wounded during the early hours of Sunday at a horse racing track venue.

Following an extensive operation, the Swiss police arrested the 43-year-old Swiss suspect just before 1 a.m. on Monday, citing suspicions of his involvement in the attack. A statement from the Aargau canton police mentioned that investigations into the incident’s details, background, and potential motives were ongoing. It is currently believed that the perpetrator acted alone, although specific information was not disclosed.

Authorities are exploring three potential motives for the shooting, which include the possibility of a mass shooting, a terrorist act, or an unknown criminal intent. Recovered cartridges from the crime scene indicated the use of two different bullet calibers, potentially from a handgun and a larger firearm, likely an assault rifle. While the cartridges resembled those used in the Russian AK-74 assault rifle, police refrained from confirming this information.

The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, identified the victim as Maria Spinelli, the 22-year-old Italian national who tragically lost her life in the shooting incident.
