Russian airstrikes in Kyiv and nearby areas resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals and injuries to several others on Tuesday, marking the sixth consecutive day of attacks on the Ukrainian capital. Since launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has intensified its air assaults on the country as its advancements on the battlefield have slowed significantly.

Recent days have witnessed a surge in drone attacks in Kyiv, causing casualties, property damage, and disruption to daily life. The use of advanced drones with jet engines has made interception more challenging. The incessant air raids have led to prolonged air-raid alerts, disrupting the routines of millions of residents.

More explosions were reported in Kyiv on Tuesday morning, with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha highlighting that Russian drones and ballistic missiles targeted residential areas and railway infrastructure during the intense overnight assaults. Sybiha urged Ukraine’s allies to heighten economic pressure on Russia and explore utilizing the country’s frozen assets abroad to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.

Overnight attacks in Kyiv claimed the lives of eight individuals, primarily railway workers, while additional explosions on Tuesday morning left three people injured in a drone strike on a high-rise apartment building, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Similarly, in Boryspil near Kyiv, four individuals were killed and 13 others were wounded in an attack targeting a residential building and other locations.

Russian strikes also impacted a border crossing with Romania in Odesa, causing power outages for numerous families, as mentioned by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Moscow’s consistent bombardment of Ukrainian cities has extended to daytime strikes recently, disrupting life in the capital.

The conflict has seen an escalation in the use of jet-powered drones by Russia, with over 2,800 deployed in August alone. Ukrainian air defenses managed to intercept five ballistic missiles overnight, with Kyiv receiving a limited supply of Patriot interceptors to bolster its capabilities.

In a retaliatory move, Ukraine has increased its strikes on Russia, targeting oil refineries and logistics infrastructure, including warehouses of online retail companies. Russian regions reported fires at key locations like the Ust-Luga port and damage to civilian facilities in the Samara region, home to oil refineries.

The ongoing tension has also resulted in cross-border incidents, with Estonian airspace briefly breached by drones used in a Ukrainian strike against Russia. The importance of supporting Ukraine with air defense resources was emphasized by Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur following the airspace violation.

As diplomatic efforts falter, Zelenskyy revealed constructive discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoys, expressing plans for a potential visit to Ukraine. The conflict remains a focal point for international relations as the crisis continues to unfold.
