Russia has issued a direct threat to use nuclear weapons against the UK and mainland Europe. Sergey Karaganov, who leads Russia’s Council for Foreign and Defense Policy, warned that if Russia fails in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin would resort to nuclear weapons, resulting in devastating consequences for Europe.
Karaganov criticized his own government for showing excessive patience towards Europe and expressed his concerns to American commentator Tucker Carlson. He emphasized the need for severe repercussions if Europe continues to support the conflict in Ukraine, accusing European leaders of lacking understanding and showing an intellectual decline since 1968.
The escalating global tensions have prompted the UK to deploy a military officer to Greenland following Denmark’s increased military presence in the Arctic and High North. Denmark’s defense minister, Troels Lund Poulsen, highlighted the unpredictability of the situation and the joint efforts of allied countries to reinforce security and deter potential aggression from Russia and China.
In response to President Trump’s security concerns in the High North, other countries like Germany, Sweden, Norway, and France have confirmed their participation in the joint mission to enhance regional security and operational capabilities in the area. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen defense cooperation and address emerging security challenges in the region.
Amid pressure from the Trump administration to acquire Greenland to prevent foreign control, concerns have been raised about the future of the transatlantic alliance. The US has indicated a willingness to use force to annex Greenland, a move that has sparked unease regarding the implications for international relations and NATO solidarity.
