After over a decade of conducting interviews and engaging in lighthearted interactions with movie stars, musicians, and athletes over some fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the popular YouTube show “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is bringing the show to a close.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her fondness for the show, likening it to her personal romantic comedy where she has crafted numerous entertaining stories for her audience. She thanked her followers for joining her on this journey and finding joy in the episodes.
Initially focusing on interviewing musicians in Britain’s underground rap scene 12 years ago, Dimoldenberg expanded her reach to celebrities such as Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow. Her YouTube channel has amassed close to 3.5 million subscribers.
“Chicken Shop Date” features a simple yet engaging format: Dimoldenberg takes celebrities on a pseudo-date to a fried chicken shop in London, asking them a mix of flirty, humorous, and sometimes awkward questions. The dynamic often resembles casual banter seen on a first date rather than a traditional talk show interview.
Noteworthy moments include an apparent flirtatious exchange with Andrew Garfield during a 2024 interview and a humorous correction by Dimoldenberg to Ryan Reynolds regarding his wife Blake Lively’s character on “Gossip Girl.”
The success of her YouTube channel has opened new avenues for Dimoldenberg, such as covering the Oscars red carpet this year, where she interviewed another Canadian, Hudson Williams.
While Dimoldenberg’s plans post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, she seems to have projects in progress. She is reportedly working on developing a young adult drama series for the BBC. However, she assured her followers of “a few final dates” before concluding the show permanently.
