Madonna, the iconic queen of pop, is set to dominate the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards. Surpassing Taylor Swift, Madonna has secured 11 nominations for this year’s VMAs, making her the most nominated artist for the third time in her career. The nominations, including categories like artist and video of the year, are in recognition of her hit album “Confessions II” and its accompanying film.

Taylor Swift, holding the title of the most awarded solo artist in VMA history, follows Madonna with nine nominations for her album “The Life of a Showgirl” and the music video for “The Fate of Ophelia.” Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande trail Swift with seven nominations each.

Madonna previously led the VMA nominations in 1990 and 1998 with her “Vogue” and “Ray of Light” eras. Notably, her groundbreaking performance at the inaugural 1984 ceremony, where she sang “Like a Virgin” while wearing a wedding dress and a “Boy Toy” belt buckle, remains a pivotal moment in cable television history.

Among Madonna’s nominations are video of the year, artist of the year, and song and collaboration of the year for “Bring Your Love,” featuring fellow nominee Sabrina Carpenter. In the highly anticipated video of the year category, “Confessions” will compete against Swift’s “Ophelia,” Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” Carpenter’s “Tears,” Bruno Mars’s “I Just Might,” and Gener8ion and Yung Lean’s “Storm.”

Voting for 13 categories is open to the public, and the winners will be revealed at the live broadcast of the ceremony on September 27, airing on CBS, MTV, and streaming on Paramount+.
