Anthony Joshua has surprised many by deciding to relocate from the United Kingdom to Dubai, despite the current tensions in the United Arab Emirates due to the US-Iran conflict. The 36-year-old former heavyweight world champion, originally from Watford with Nigerian roots, achieved Olympic gold for Great Britain in 2012. According to reports from the Daily Mail, Joshua is shifting his residency to the UAE, as evidenced by paperwork filed for his substantial £150 million business empire.

This move by Joshua comes amidst ongoing hostilities involving the USA, Israel, and Iran, with the UAE being targeted by Iranian missiles and drones over the past weeks. Despite the geopolitical challenges, the allure of Dubai’s climate and amenities, coupled with its tax advantages like no income tax, attracts individuals seeking a high-quality lifestyle. In contrast, Joshua would have faced significant UK tax liabilities on his earnings, including a £10.1 million dividend in 2024 and £6.3 million in 2023, alongside his company Sparta Promotions’ profits and tax payments in the UK.

Notably, Joshua’s decision coincides with Rio Ferdinand and Kate Ferdinand sharing their experiences of living in Dubai during the US-Iran conflict. The couple described the mix of fear and security they felt amid the uncertainties, with Kate reassuring fans of their safety following missile strikes in Dubai. Other celebrities, including ex-boxer Amir Khan and Hollywood star Lindsey Lohan, have also chosen Dubai as their new home.

Joshua’s relocation underscores the growing trend of prominent figures seeking refuge or settling in Dubai, drawn by its lifestyle offerings and favorable tax environment.
