The Federal Court has mandated the disclosure of previously withheld sections from a September 1986 study commissioned for a significant federal inquiry on war crimes. Federal Court Justice Simon Fothergill’s recent ruling instructed the government to reveal redacted parts of the report concerning the resettlement of suspected Nazi war criminals in Canada post-World War II.

B’nai Brith Canada has persistently advocated for access to more of the research conducted by Alti Rodal. In February 2024, Library and Archives Canada unveiled additional segments of the report following a request from B’nai Brith. However, certain sections, including information regarding the involvement of American intelligence agencies in aiding the relocation of Nazi collaborators to Canada, were still being withheld by Library and Archives.

Judge Fothergill dismissed the government’s argument that disclosing further details could adversely impact Canada’s international relationships.
