Investigators are still searching through an apartment where a woman was discovered deceased.
Law enforcement responded to a residence in Bolton, Greater Manchester, just after 10 am on Monday and found the woman unconscious. Despite CPR efforts by emergency personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene. A homicide investigation was initiated, and a 33-year-old man was detained.
Local residents observed a significant police presence, with officers securing the entrance to the building at Kempston Gardens while forensic experts began collecting evidence.
Terence Gormley, a resident, expressed surprise, noting the stark change from the neighborhood’s past tranquility when he first moved there four decades ago. He declined offers to move to an apartment in the area, preferring to remain in his house.
Another local resident mentioned the prevalence of illicit activities in the vicinity, such as drug transactions, obstructing children from using the park due to nighttime disturbances. The resident lamented the loss of the woman and emphasized the senselessness of her death for her family.
Detective Inspector Louise Kelly from Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team stated that the primary focus currently is on identifying the deceased woman and notifying her relatives promptly. Specialized officers will provide continuous support to the family throughout the investigative process.
“A murder inquiry has been launched, and although a suspect is in custody, there is an active police cordon in place. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. While recognizing that such incidents may raise community concerns, we believe there is no broader threat to public safety,” said Detective Inspector Kelly.
