Promising talent Promise David is set to make his debut in the Premier League as Brighton & Hove Albion officially announced the signing of the Canadian striker on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes a potential transfer fee of $29.7 million US, contingent upon meeting specific criteria.

Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be transitioning to the Premier League starting from the upcoming season, setting a new record fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old forward arrives at Brighton following a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 appearances, aiding the team in securing their first league title in 90 years back in 2025. David, who extended his contract until June 2029 last year, also represented Canada at the recent World Cup, contributing a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 senior national team appearances, David’s versatility and talent have been recognized on the international stage.

Originally born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 team before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025 after receiving FIFA approval following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch. Brighton’s sporting director, Mike Cave, expressed enthusiasm about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets to the team. David’s journey to Brighton has seen him play professionally in various countries, including Croatia, Malta, and Estonia, before moving to Belgium in 2024.

As Brighton gears up for the new season, the addition of Promise David to their squad brings optimism and anticipation for his contributions on the field. The Premier League club, with a nine-season streak in the top flight, finished in the eighth position in the previous campaign, aiming for further success with the inclusion of the talented Canadian forward.
