The Canadian beach volleyball pair consisting of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament held on home soil. The 2024 Olympic silver medalists came from behind to defeat Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16, securing a place on the podium.
Wilkerson excelled with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points. The match was briefly halted due to a weather delay before resuming.
Earlier in the day, the duo suffered a defeat in the semifinals to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta, ending their chances of a three-peat victory. However, they bounced back to claim the bronze against the same German opponents later.
Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson had previously won the Montreal titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver in between during the Paris Games.
In the men’s category, Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a comeback to secure an upset win in the bronze-medal match against Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen. After losing the opening set, they rallied to win the next two sets, 28-26 and 15-12, earning their first podium finish together at home.
Schachter and Pickett had defeated the top-ranked pair in the world to reach the men’s semifinals but fell short against Brazil in a close match.
