Winnipeg resident Jackson Tachinski expressed overwhelming emotions witnessing Canada’s men’s flag football team making history at the IFAF World Flag Football Championships in Dusseldorf, Germany. Tachinski and the team secured a bronze medal by defeating Mexico 34-26 in a thrilling overtime victory, marked by Guillaume Béland’s crucial interception. This win not only secured a podium finish but also granted Canada a spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where flag football will debut.

Reflecting on the pivotal moment, Tachinski described it as an indescribable experience, highlighting the surreal feeling of being part of such a significant achievement. Anticipating the opportunity to represent Canada at the upcoming Olympics, Tachinski expressed his eagerness, emphasizing the uniqueness and pride associated with such a prestigious event.

In a parallel triumph, Canada’s women’s flag football team also secured a spot at the Olympics after defeating the U.S. 27-20 to conclude an undefeated streak. Quarterback Sara Parker was hailed as the tournament’s most valuable player for her exceptional performance. The success of both teams garnered praise from Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea, who expressed immense pride and admiration for their achievements.

Looking ahead to the 2028 Olympics, CFL and NFL players are set to participate in flag football, adding another layer of excitement to the event. Blue Bombers receiver Nic Demski, contemplating the possibility of joining the Olympic team, acknowledged the honor of representing his country on a global stage.
