The burden of upholding a family’s athletic legacy can be daunting. The newest cohort of a renowned track and field lineage from Swift Current faced initial challenges immersing themselves in the sport. Jackson Tuplin, reflecting on his early years, confessed his initial aversion to track due to his preference for hockey. Similarly, his siblings Carter and Macey had their reservations about following the family tradition of excelling in track and field.

However, their perspective shifted during high school, leading Jackson and Carter to become the fourth generation of track and field competitors from their family to join the University of Saskatchewan team. The family’s track legacy traces back to 1948 when their great-grandmother, Anne Mang, clinched the 100-meter provincial championship and excelled in various disciplines like long jump, javelin, and ball throw.

Cyndi Tasche, Anne Mang’s daughter, shared her fond memories of growing up amidst track and field triumphs. She, too, pursued track, eventually coaching at Swift Current Comprehensive High School from 1978 to 2005. Cyndi’s daughters, Mandi, Lindsay, and Hillary, embraced the family tradition, joining the U of S Huskies track team and achieving multiple national championship victories.

Mandi Tasche-Tuplin, inspired by her grandmother’s achievements, pursued her own track success, ultimately meeting her husband, Emery Tuplin, through the sport. The couple’s shared passion for track led to numerous accolades, with both winning the 2001 Huskies Track and Field Athlete of the Year award. Emery further contributed to the men’s track team’s success, following the footsteps of the women’s teams to a national championship.

The track legacy continued as Mandi took over coaching duties at Swift Current in 2011, guiding her teams to seven consecutive provincial championships. Despite their track success, the couple emphasized the importance of allowing their children to pursue their own passions. Jackson and Carter, both accomplished track athletes, aim to impart their love for the sport by aspiring to become teachers and giving back to the track community.

The family’s dedication to track and field, spanning over four generations, showcases a profound commitment to athletic excellence and familial bonds. As Mandi reflects on her grandmother’s potential pride, she envisions a bright future where the next generation will carry on the family’s track legacy with passion and determination.
