Buses transporting USS Abraham Lincoln crew members arrived in the coastal city of Pattaya, Thailand for a port call following an extensive deployment in the Middle East. During this deployment in support of operations against Iran, the aircraft carrier set a record with over 260 consecutive days at sea, sparking concerns about crew mental health and food shortages.
Despite reports of challenges, the U.S. Navy downplayed any issues, with President Trump commenting that the deployment was not long enough. The USS Abraham Lincoln spent a total of 286 days deployed, with 264 days uninterrupted at sea before reaching Chonburi province in Thailand.
After disembarking from buses, crew members expressed excitement about being in Thailand. Vendors and travel agents awaited them outside the Hard Rock Hotel, the designated meeting point for the troops arriving from the docked USS Abraham Lincoln. The crew members, laden with luggage, interacted with vendors offering souvenirs and services while waiting for transportation.
Additional vessels from the USS Abraham Lincoln strike group, including the destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. and the cruiser USS Robert Smalls, were docked at different locations in Thailand. Local vendors, like A-ngoon Sombat selling bracelets, seized the opportunity presented by the ship’s visit to offer their goods to the visiting crew.
Amid the bustling atmosphere, service members were seen exploring Pattaya’s Terminal 21 mall, enjoying their time ashore. A young navigator aboard the Petersen expressed high morale among the crew members, eager to return home after their deployment. The onlookers gathered outside Laem Chabang Port to catch a glimpse of the impressive USS Abraham Lincoln, engaging in conversations about the technological marvel of the aircraft carrier.
As the USS Abraham Lincoln prepares to head home, Captain Dan Keeler mentioned potential supply stops but did not disclose the exact return date of the strike group to the U.S.
