Thieves in the United Kingdom have set a new standard for audacity. The British authorities are currently working on recovering 70,000 pints of stolen Guinness beer. The stolen goods, consisting of two trailer truckloads filled with the iconic dark and creamy beer, were valued at 115,000 pounds ($216,000 Cdn) and were taken from a depot near Liverpool in northwest England, as reported by the Cheshire Constabulary on Thursday.

Detective Sergeant Gary McClatchy emphasized the importance of obtaining the stolen items legally, stating, “It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for. We are determined to fully recover all the stolen goods.”

This theft incident occurred shortly after a high-profile beer robbery in the United States, where approximately 34,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon were stolen, garnering significant attention due to the brewery’s humorous social media responses.

The stolen Guinness beer was intended for pubs but was taken on Monday night by two drivers who arrived at an industrial park in Runcorn and drove away with the trailers containing around 800 barrels of stout. The trailers themselves were estimated to be worth 50,000 pounds ($93,000).

In a separate incident, the theft of Pabst Blue Ribbon from a warehouse in Southern California was valued at $70,000 US ($97,000 Cdn), leading the company to offer a $20,000 US reward for any information that could aid in the recovery of the stolen beverages.

The brewery took to social media to address the thief directly, stating, “To the thief: we don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way. P.s. this is real and we are deadly serious.”
