A Cape Breton teenager successfully raised $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada by operating a hotdog stand and receiving generous donations. Jake Campbell, 13, and his family managed the hotdog stand over the weekend, using supplies contributed by No Frills and Wonder Bread. Last year, they collected $3,000 through a similar initiative, and this year, Jake aimed to double that amount, which they surpassed.
The hotdog stand was set up in the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., where not only hotdogs were sold but cash donations were also made by supportive individuals. Hollie Quick, a senior development officer at Make-A-Wish Canada in Nova Scotia, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support shown by Sydney.
Quick mentioned that Jake Campbell was recognized with an award last year for his fundraising efforts, which motivated him to surpass his previous achievement. The funds raised by the Campbell family will now be utilized to fulfill the wishes of 81 children on the foundation’s list in Nova Scotia. These wishes range from creating accessible outdoor spaces to organizing family trips.
Jake Campbell emphasized the importance of supporting Make-A-Wish Canada, highlighting that such initiatives benefit not only the children but the entire family. He expressed his enthusiasm for future fundraising endeavors, aiming to continue making a positive impact.
