“John Tory Named Chair of TIFF Board of Directors”

John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Tory stated his eagerness to collaborate with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the broader TIFF community to influence its future direction.

Tory’s official tenure is set to commence on October 1, as disclosed in a recent press release. The upcoming festival is scheduled to run from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who had held the position of chair since 2021. In his farewell remarks, Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing enduring pride in his contributions to the festival’s evolution.

TIFF has also introduced three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Additionally, Asha Daniere, after nine years of service on the board, will be stepping down. TIFF conveyed its heartfelt gratitude to Daniere for her dedication and valuable contributions to the organization.
