Fatal Hit-and-Run Trial Delayed by Three Weeks

A woman accused of leaving the scene of a fatal accident near Fredericton will have her court appearance delayed by three weeks. Vanessa Ricketson, 27, faces charges in connection with the death of a 19-year-old man from Norton. Originally set for a trial mode selection in Fredericton provincial court on Tuesday, Ricketson was not present in court as her defense lawyer, Shane Hill, acting on behalf of Emily Cochrane, requested an adjournment for evidence disclosure. The new court date was set for September 1 by Judge Lyne Raymond. The victim, who remains unidentified by the police, had taken safety measures by pulling over, wearing a reflective vest, and activating the vehicle’s hazard lights. The RCMP did not confirm if Ricketson was the person of interest mentioned shortly after the March 19 accident. Ricketson was charged nearly four months after the incident, and as of Tuesday, she is not in police custody.
