Dozens of flood warnings have been issued throughout the UK, urging residents to prepare emergency supplies in anticipation of ongoing heavy rainfall. The Environment Agency has raised 27 flood alerts due to persistent rain affecting various regions, particularly the South West, parts of the South East, and Yorkshire. Additional low-level alerts have been issued across England.

The inclement weather is expected to persist in eastern and central Scotland, as a slow-moving low-pressure system from the southwest brings wet and windy conditions. Areas like Cornwall, Devon, the South West, and southern Wales are under a yellow rain and wind warning until 9 am tomorrow. Individuals are advised to brace for potential power outages, transportation delays, and coastal areas facing high waves.

The Met Office recommends that families create a flood plan and assemble an emergency flood kit containing essentials like torches, batteries, a mobile phone charger, and other necessary items. Named Storm Ingrid by the Portuguese national weather service, the incoming low-pressure system is projected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to southwest England before easing up on Saturday morning. The Met Office’s Chief Forecaster, Neil Armstrong, warns of over 20mm of rain falling on already saturated ground, heightening the risk of adverse impacts. Moreover, coastal regions could experience large waves and gusty winds, with peak speeds reaching 60mph along the southern coasts and 45-50mph inland.

The flood warnings emphasize the potential for swift-flowing or deep floodwater that might isolate certain communities. Notable areas under flood alerts include the following regions.
